HOW’S THE MARKET?

  • In 2025, Dare County’s property tax rate will drop to 26.32 cents per $100 of assessed value — down from 40.05 cents. This decrease combined with the increased tax values creates a revenue neutral tax bill for most owner’s County Taxes in Dare.

  • And what about Currituck County? They haven't finalized their 2025–26 tax rate yet, but officials have said they plan to adjust it in response to rising property values — likely aiming for a similar revenue-neutral outcome.

We are getting Techy!

The Dare County Water Department has a new app to track your water use daily and monthly. It even alerts you to possible leaks (like nonstop 24-hour use).

Big news, y’all!! The Sanderling has landed none other than celebrity chef Vivian Howard — yes, that Vivian Howard! I devoured every episode of her PBS show and have been obsessed ever since. The fact that she's opening a restaurant right here in Duck is honestly a dream come true.

Her new spot is called Theodosia, and it opens in just a few weeks!

You can read more about her amazing journey here, and check out her new OBX venture (and make a reservation!) right here.

Seriously... I can’t wait. Who’s coming with me?

  1. Slice the bread on the bias, brush it with olive oil, and toast it in the oven.

  2. Mix the goat cheese with lemon juice and honey.

  3. Halve the strawberries if small, or slice if large, and stir them together with mint and honey. Leave to macerate for a bit.

  4. Assemble the bruschetta by spreading some goat cheese mixture onto each toast, topping with a few pieces of strawberry, and sprinkling with flaky salt and pepper. Drizzle with a bit more honey if you like, and serve.
