I’ve seen a few questions on FB about where to go to dinner in Carova and where to grocery shop. To the native or local, this is a funny question, but it got me thinking…I should PSA for Carova and S. Nags Head for anyone visiting for the first time.

In short, if you want to “get away from it all” here’s our top two town picks for that “off the grid” feel.

Carova

“Theres a shorter

list of what Carova HAS than what it HASN’T”

HAS:

✅Wild Horses

✅Ocean and Sound views

✅Beautiful homes and vistas

HASN’T:

❌Stores. Of any kind. Technically, I think you can buy a t-shirt from the Volunteer Fire department and maybe stamps? Don’t quote me on either.

So that means, no groceries, no restaurants, no gas stations, no retail.

❌Pavement. Of any kind. Technically, there are a few paved driveways, but all roads are sand.

❌Street signs. OK, there’s a view, but they are few and far between and some aren’t even on the right street corner.

S. Nags Head

an extension of

Nags Head,

just without commercialism.

It’s off to Nags Head or Manteo for the nearest gas station, retail, or grocery store. Don’t worry, it’s not far.

S. Nags Head DOES have a GREAT little bar and restaurant at the Outer Banks Fishing Pier around mile post 18.5. So you can stop for an adult beverage and a burger if the few miles to “town” is too much for you.
